Electronic Contents Page

I have decided to have an image in the corner that slowly fades out this image is likely to have some link to the double page spread, for example if my cover line is new kid on the block I am hoping to have an image of a block of estates. The use of the image fading will allow the other images to stand out equally as much  as the larger ones.

The heading Contents Page will be located on the top left this is so that both the image and the title are able to stand out. The heading colours will contrast to that of the rest of the page allowing it to stand out more. The heading is likely to be in Capitals to draw attention to it.

The contents page information will be relatively short so to not give too much away and entice them to read more. I am likely to use certain literary techniques to entice the reader more such as rhetorical questions such as you "would you wanna miss this?" or an imperative such as "Read this new article".

The plug similar to my previous plug will be offering items and services such as gig information and clothing to the reader and also will be informing them of other sections of the magazine that are of importance. The colours are likely to be relatively bold to allow it to stand out more.

The small article will include language appropriate to the magazine , doing so will hopefully set the tone for the rest of the magazine; it will include good vocabulary and hopefully specific terminology relating to the magazine. The use of good vocabulary will imply the magazine is for those of average intelligence and those of a good reading and writing level, the specific terminology will draw in the readers who are passionate about music and will possibly make the magazine seem more professional.

The three smaller images are likely to have some reference to the more important information on the content page. I am hoping to include a variety of colours and effects within these images doing so will contrast to the main image in the corner and allow each to stand out equally. Also i believe its important for me to have more images as i don't want my magazine to be dominated by one artist or one topic.

Electronic Front Cover

As you can see my masthead will be located at the top of the magazine this follows the convention of most magazines. The masthead colour will juxtapose that of the background/image this will allow the masthead to stand out more and therefore drawing the reader’s attention. The masthead will be in capitals this will hopefully make the magazine seem more important and urgent. The use of the masthead being at the top will allow the image to stand out as there will hopefully be clear separation between text and the image.

The date and issue number will be located next to the masthead in small and plain font this is due to the fact that I believe they are of minimal importance and offer no value or significance in drawing the reader’s attention. The use of date and price being placed next to the masthead allows the reader to see them but means it takes less space, allowing for more important aspects to be included.

The main cover line is going to link to the main image and therefore the double page spread. It’s likely to have a small caption from the double page spread to entice the reader. The colour again will contrast to the main image however it will be different to the masthead as I want that to stand out the most and draw the most attention. The alternative cover line is likely to link closely to the charts or about another artist or band however I may decide to have it about an upcoming gig as I want my main cover line artist to be the only artist therefore sanding out more.

The plug will relate to offers on stores such as TOPMAN or H&M or about a free poster inside. The plug will hopefully attract the reader as they are able to get free or cheaper products.

I am going to use certain literary techniques such as imperatives, doing this will order the reader to read or go to certain parts of my magazine doing so will express urgency.

Photo-shoot

I am hoping to have the location of the shoot either around Shad Thames, A Skate Park or a local estate. I have chosen these three locations for various reasons. All images will be taken during the day so I will hopefully have the best lighting available for my images, however a lot of my decisions will depend upon the weather due to the fact that if weather isn’t right I won’t be able to get the shots I want so I will have to try and plan my shoots in advance according to the weather. I will aim to edit certain aspects of my images so certain factors may not be that crucial due to Photoshop; however I don’t want to edit too many aspects of my image as I still want it to be relatively natural.
Shad Thames
I have decided to possibly choose Shad Thames due to the numerous old fashioned and new features surrounding it, having a variety of different features will allow me to have a variety of choices to choose from. Having old features will allow the model to stand out more due to his updated style and appearance this juxtaposition will hopefully create for a good image, for example certain buildings and brick work are in my opinion would be a good location for my shoot . However having the model around new features won’t allow him and his image to stand out as much as the previous choice but possibly the contrast between new technology, which is usually denoted as being quite hectic and busy and the contrast between the mellowness of indie music may be a good enough juxtaposition.. Shad Thames is located right near Tower Bridge; I am unlikely to use this landmark in my magazine as I believe that it’s too cheesy and is better suited to another type of genre such as POP.
Skate Park
I have decided to possibly choose a Skate Park as my location due to the links between skating and indie music. Having it set in this location won’t allow my model to stand out as much as my other locations but will allow for a great mise en scene due to the numerous graffiti surrounding it. Also having the location as a skate park will allow me to take photos at different levels with greater ease due to the numerous skating apparatuses around the area. Having different levels will be very useful when editing my double page spread as my initial idea is to have a different perspective of the same image.
Estate
I have decided to possibly choose an estate as it will be easily accessible to use for my shoot also due to the wide variety of estate types around the local area it will allow for variety and choice. An estate would be a good choice as it would be very easy for the audience to relate to and therefore making for a better image. Also if the model is well groomed and possibly wearing the shirt I choose the juxtaposition between a rough estate would be really good and allow both the model and the estate to stand out.

Clothing For Magazine

I have decided to try and use these in my photo shoot due to the fact that they are very stylish and are in fashion at the moment. Also due to the fact they are a brand name its likely to be more recognisable to the audience. Also as they are glasses they have lens' it will enable me to edit them and include something possibly more music related.

I have decided to use vans in the photo shoot again similar to other products I have chosen they are in fashion. Also they are very common trainers so making the artist seem more “normal” and therefore possibly making him more relatable to the audience. Also they are black so match the glasses creating good colour co-ordination and therefore making him seem more stylish. Also originally vans were worn by skateboarders this could possibly link to the music genre I have chosen
I have decided to use burgundy chinos as I think the colour in very fashionable at the moment as are chinos. The colour stands out against the other colours i have chosen and therefore making them a focal point in the image. Also the chino type is skinny this in my opinion is more stylish and better relates to the genre due to connotations of skateboarding and such.

This piece of clothing is very simplistic; this allows other features of the image to stand out but none so more than the artist face. The piece of clothing being a sweatshirt makes the artist possibly seem more normal and less like a “famous artist”; this may appeal to the audience as they may feel that they are able to relate to him.

Alternatively to the sweatshirt I may choose a denim shirt. A  shirt is usually described as being quite smart and formal, as the shirt is denim it will hopefully have connotations of the formalness however may be more stylish due to the fact that its denim. I was thinking that I will have all the buttons done up so the image stays quite simplistic and so does the colour scheme. The small pattern on each breast is quite unconventional which I like, this should stand out and also looks quite retro.

I might be using a beanie due to the fact that I think it relates closely to indie pop. I think if the model wears the hat so it covers some hair and not too much of the face the models face will still be a focal point. The colour of the beanie is hat is burgundy this matches the chinos creating a good colour scheme yet again. A problem I may have is that a notorious RnB artist constantly wears these types of hats, this may mean people might not link beanies with indie any more.

I am debating whether to have a beanie hat or a snap back. The reason for this is that snapbacks are very stylish and in fashion at the moment. And I feel that it would look quite good against the denim shirt, this in my opinion would create quite an unconventional image. Also I would be able to find one to match specific colours creating a good colour scheme. I also feel that the use of the hat could have too many references to Hip-hop and RnB music, possibly diminishing the indie image in trying to create.

Market Research Analysis

1.      Q1.As you can see from the results I asked more females than males this may make my results biased however as I have chosen such a specific genre that I assume not many people would listen to I specifically chose students I knew who would have relative interest in the genre, so from this I could assume I should specify my magazine mainly towards females.

Q2.As you can see from my results the majority of my audience are aged between 16-18 this may mean they are more mature and therefore could possibly want complex or more intriguing articles. Also as they are teenagers they may be able to understand more slang terms and would possibly prefer a mixture of formal and informal language. Also as a teenager I able am able to relate to them more hopefully this will be conveyed in my text.

Q3.As you can see form the results the majority of people prefer more images on the front cover of the magazine in my opinion this will be quite hard for to find the right balance of too many images and not enough. And from the results you can see that certain people would prefer less text on the magazine, this could possibly mean I could be influenced by the magazine we previously looked at.From the results you can see that the majority of people I asked, stated that they enjoyed listening to music this connotes that I have found the correct audience of which to aim my magazine. Following this, the target audience answered that they enjoy socialising 'hanging with friends' this could mean I should try and target this group as they have similar interests, also I could possibly try and include group activities.

Q4. As you can see from my results the majority of the target audience

Wordle: Sparetimes
Q5.Due to the fact that I used the school email I specifically chose students who attend the school therefore i already knew they were of a desirable intellect. However from the results its seems as if the majority of people study either Media or English ; this could mean that the language I could use could be more complex and possibly use more specific terms. Also from the results it seems as if the majority of students study more than 3 subjects this could mean my target audience are of a higher intellect.
Wordle: Subjects studying

Q6.From the results it seems as if the majority of my target audience use Facebook and a small percentage use Twitter this means I should try and link certain aspects of my magazine to either Facebook or Twitter as much as I can.

Wordle: Socialsites
Q7.From the results it seems as if Downloading is the most popular and common way of getting music this could mean i should try and include as many links to downloading as much possible. Also it shows that they are frequently using the Internet so you use this to my advantage similarly to the socialising networks.

Q8.From the results it shows that Topman is the most common place to shop in this tells me something about the style of my audience and may allow me to represent/portray this style in the magazine by the images i choose to use. This will help greatly when choosing the costume to use , especially for the front cover as its the main aspect of the magazine in my opinion which catches the audiences eyes.

Wordle: Clothes stores
Q9.From the results you can see that way in which the magazine is laid out doesn't matter if the magazine quality is of a high standard , this means i should try and focus more on content rather than image. However non-conventional magazines seem to be preferred to rather than conventional , this means possibly when designing my magazine i should try and make it less conventional.
